I'm sure that part of that is due to their real-life models being engaging, fascinating people.

I don't want to recommend anything that would be depressing or too down, or anything. That said, if you are needing to experience grief musically, there is a piece called the "Funeral Ikos" by John Tavener that is stunning and haunting.

You can listen on Tavener's website, or on iTunes or whatever.

An Ikos is a hymn sung for a particular feast day or occasion in the Greek Orthodox Church. While abominable for womens' and LGBT rights, the eastern Orthodox church does grief really well. This particular hymn gets a little gory, but as far as religious songs go, it's pretty unique. It seems to me that the speaker isn't really sure of an afterlife, but is desperately hoping for one....Tough to describe.

Like I said, though, if you don't want a sock in the guts, it might not be for you....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3576716365575919550.post-66155323235376331222007-11-11T18:20:00.000-06:002007-11-11T18:20:00.000-06:00Kat: Thank you SO MUCH for your blessing. How apt that your search for Pecos/Bill got you here. We lived in Pecos twice as children, and of course the Pecos Bill stories were Bill's favorite. I went to read your blogs, and want to share I've swim at Balmorhea, just adore the place. (We lived in Fort Stockton and Del Rio, too, as well as Midland and Carlsbad.) I also very much appreciated your claiming Celtic heritage and linking it to anti-racism, anti-anti-immigration thinking. Right on! I, too, have a predominantly Celt ancestry, mostly Scots. I was deeply moved by your family experiences and by your instinct to survive, to proudly proclaim your space among the Breathing Sentient, despite the cruel scrutiny of the "righteous," and justly beyond the reproach of the "fittest."

-cliff
http://balmorheaprogressive.blogspot.com/
http://thisaintmyfirstrodeo.blogspot.com/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3576716365575919550.post-18151129535991647292007-11-10T16:50:00.000-06:002007-11-10T16:50:00.000-06:00Eonia i mnimi aftou.(may his memory be eternal).Eonia i mnimi aftou.
(may his memory be eternal).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
